Investing emergency fund reddit

I was listening to this podcast about millenial investing and they had an author on who advocated for investing your entire emergency fund instead of keeping it in cash. His argument is that if you are only using a portion of your portfolio for emergencies it is much cheaper to just take the risk and invest it all than to keep it in cash and sell at a loss in a market crash. I know a lot of Bogleheads would disagree with this but it seems intuitive to me – especially when he mentions that people who have invested their whole emergency funds (or a portion of it) have actually outperformed the EF only person in worse case scenarios.

I’m still not sure if this is something I want to do but it was interesting to hear his reasoning. I still think it’s best to have a good amount of cold hard cash stashed away to cover 3-6 months worth of expenses and then start investing after you have covered all of your bases (checking account, paying off debt, savings/money market accounts, etc.).
